The Skin Check: Meet Dee Conway
This week on the Ultraviolet Tide, I sit down with one of the strongest advocates in our community, Dee Conway!
Dee is a wife, mom, advocate and yes, another friend of mine! The Low Ultraviolet community has become a bit of a family and last April, I met Dee in person the same day I met last month’s guest Katie.
Dee has her own journey with skin cancer but also, in 2018, her sister Rose passed away from melanoma and she almost lost her husband to Valley Fever. These two events led her to educate people on skin cancer and valley fever and advocate for prevention, awareness and funding.
One of the things Dee and I discuss in this episode is our recent trip to Washington, DC for the Melanoma Research Foundation‘s Advocacy Days. Advocacy Days an incredible opportunity to learn more about advancements in melanoma treatment and meet others passionate about melanoma education, prevention and awareness. Sharing our stories with lawmakers to advocate for funding and life-saving policies is truly empowering.
In this episode, we list the 30 states we didn’t have representatives for on the Hill this year. If you are interested in being a melanoma advocate and joining us in DC next year, we’d love to have you reach out to us or the Melanoma Research Foundation for more information!
