The Skin Check: Meet Katie of My Melanoma World
In the latest episode of The Skin Check, I sat down with Low Ultraviolet‘s very first ambassador and my good friend Katie Ostrovsky. Katie is known to many as My Melanoma World on Instagram and is the Founder of the Stop Melanoma Movement. As the first official ambassador for L.U.V. Low Ultraviolet, Katie was helping grow and support the brand before they even launched our first UPF clothing item!
Katie is a Stage 4 metastatic melanoma survivor who recently hit a major milestone in January, celebrating 9 years cancer free. Today, immunotherapy is one of the leading treatments of metastatic melanoma but when Katie was first diagnosed, there were little to no effective treatment options available. She opens up about how rare it is to be a 9 year survivor of metastatic melanoma and how to protect your mental health throughout a cancer diagnosis and beyond.
Katie has been an inspiration to many members of the skin cancer community and inspires others to share their story. She was the first one to encourage me to share my own story and told me that stories like mine give her hope. I credit her for giving me the courage to open up and helping me to find my voice. She is one of the strongest voices in the community and we are eternally grateful for all of the work that she does!
