Ways to Show your Mom Gratitude this Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day is a day designated to show our moms the gratitude and appreciation we should really be showing them every day. If your mom is anything like mine, she is selfless, caring, and will put your happiness in front of her own any time she has the chance. There are so many gift guides out there about the perfect thing to give your mom on her day. Like most holidays, Mother’s Day has become somewhat of a “greeting card holiday” when a personalized expression of your gratitude will mean just as much to her, if not more. Below are a few personalized ways to show how much she means to you without settling for the old standbys:
Handwritten Letter
Instead of scouring the greeting card aisle of your local store for the perfect message, write your own! Who better to express how you feel about her than you? Taking the time to write her a heartfelt message in your own handwriting shows her you care enough to make the extra effort. Bonus points if you send it in the mail: who doesn’t love going to the mailbox and finding something other than bills?!
Photo of your Favorite Memory
One of my favorite things about my mom is her sense of adventure. I love going with her to try new restaurants or explore new cities. What do you love to do with your mom? Find a photo of the two of you doing one of your favorite activities and get it printed. On the back of the photo, let her know why this is your favorite memory of your time together. If you want to make this an annual tradition, you could choose a photo each year of your favorite memory from the year past!
Personalized Gift Basket
Mother’s Day is supposed to be a day of pampering. However, pampering doesn’t mean just brunch or a spa day. If your mom had one day to do whatever she wanted, what would she do? Maybe she loves reading or gardening or going for hikes. Put together a personalized gift basket with everything she would need to create her perfect day. If she likes reading, you could give her a coffee mug, her favorite coffee and a book you read and loved. Once she’s finished the book too, you can discuss it together over a cup of joe. Be creative! Whatever you come up with, she will love that you created it with her interests in mind.
Homemade Breakfast
Brunch has become such a Mother’s Day standby that restaurants start advertising reservations a month in advance. What could be more relaxing than breakfast at home? Cook up your mom’s favorite breakfast dishes and invite her over for a more informal brunch of your own. Better yet? Bring brunch to her! You don’t have to actually bring her breakfast in bed but nothing is more relaxing than enjoying a slow morning of breakfast in your pjs. An assortment of breakfast pastries, coffee and family are the only ingredients necessary for a perfect Mother’s Day brunch in.
A Morning at the Farmer’s Market
Mother’s Day means spring and spring means Farmer’s Markets. I love perusing the farmer’s market for locally grown produce, fresh cut flowers and handmade gifts. All of these things make great Mother’s Day gifts too! Instead of buying her gifts in advance, give her the gift of time together. Spend a morning strolling the farmer’s market together, sampling freshly baked pastries and meeting local vendors. Treat her to her favorite bouquet of flowers and other treasures you find along the way. Trust me, some mother/daughter time is just what every mom really wants!
What are your Mother’s Day plans? I’d love to hear if you came up with any creative ideas of your own!
