Introducing: The Skin Check

I am SO excited to announce that I will be hosting a monthly segment on Low Ultraviolet’s new podcast, The Low Ultraviolet Tide!!

Low Ultraviolet is a safe, fashionable and affordable UPF50+ clothing brand based out of Washington, DC. They were founded in 2019 by Erica Sullivan with a mission to outshine skin cancer. Their podcast, the Low Ultraviolet Tide, is hosted by Erica and her business partner Snigdha Sangisetti and offers up a weekly dose of skincare tips and tricks, lifestyle advice and more.

I’ve been an ambassador for Low Ultraviolet (L.U.V.) for about two years now (and own as much of their pieces as Erica) so I’m honored to get to be a part of this project! The Skin Check is a monthly segment where I’ll be interviewing other L.U.V. ambassadors and skin cancer advocates, offering them a platform to share their story, offer advice and show support for others in the community.

So why call it the skin check? As a melanoma survivor, I’m a HUGE advocate of people getting an annual skin check. Other than wearing sunscreen daily (yes, even in the winter!), there is no bigger piece of advice I’m more passionate about. A skin check is a screening appointment you schedule with a dermatologist where they examine all of your skin for signs of skin cancer. Most of the L.U.V. ambassadors are skin cancer patients, survivors or thrivers or have a loved one who has or has had skin cancer. Because of this, we are passionate about skin cancer education, spreading more awareness and encouraging everyone to get a skin check. This monthly segment is an opportunity for them to share their voice and advocate for the change they wish to see – something I believe is as impactful in saving lives as skin checks with your dermatologist!

My first two episodes have already gone live: I spoke with Leah Adams in February and Katie Ostrovsky of My Melanoma World in March. You can find their episodes here but I’ll also be sharing a post on each of their episodes later this week! This month’s episode will be out in a little over a week (new episodes air each Tuesday!) and Dee Conway and I talk about political advocacy and our recent trip to Washington, DC for Advocacy Days with the Melanoma Research Foundation.

I hope you give the show a listen and let us know what you think!
